The vast expanse of the universe has always held a fascination for me… In it’s myriads of stars, I see the light and darkness that represent “my kind”… Stories and conversations with women merge like stardust into my subconsciousness…

In every falling star, I see a woman fall into the abyss of sexual violence or gender discrimination. My being… my voice… compel me to question my Origins, my path to discovery… I embark on a journey.

I endeavour to unfold the stages of a woman’s life…

To identify with the power of love, the emptiness of loss… a search for wisdom, unity and empowerment.

I reach out in one universal voice.

This is my Quest.

My Kind

My Kind

This time is my time, this space is my space
This feud is my feud, make no mistake

My kind, My kind…
We created this race
No, I won’t refuse
It’s broken, my faith…

An eye for an eye, a mace for a mace
Black n blue times two won’t erase this heartache

My kind, My kind…
We created grace
No, I won’t refuse
It’s broken my faith

Blinded by the light
Wings pinned mid flight
All around, fire blight
Shadows loom in cold delight
Glory lies in glassy eyes
A heart and soul… They pay the price.

Brought into this life, bequeathed shape and name
Given to this truth and a will that won’t be tamed
A voice meant to be heard, a voice that won’t be shamed
Proud, She runs free…Unfettered, unframed.

My kind, My kind…
We created this race
No, I won’t refuse
It’s broken my faith
My kind, My kind…
We created grace
No, I won’t refuse
It’s broken, my faith.

Breakdown

The clock’s ticking slower, time’s about to stand still
The wind is getting colder, blood curdles and chills
The spider draws his web, etches in for his kill
He’ll freeze frame a prey, weave his patterns into thrills

It’s coming down hard
And there’s nowhere to go
There’s no escape inside
There’s really nowhere to go
I need somewhere to hide
Just to breathe and let go
Spinning left and right
There’s really nowhere to go

Breakdown
There’s nowhere to go

Slate clouds all around, smoke signals everywhere
I float into strata where the air is rare
Atmospheric pressure plummets…my raw fear, it’s bare
Is there a force, a higher ground or just me out there?

A desperate dive into water, I come up with a gasp
Salt stings through my eyes…Sensation, at last!
The current’s getting stronger; my heart’s a manic fast
I decline into delusion…is salvation in grasp?

It’s coming down hard
And there’s nowhere to go
There’s no escape inside
There’s really nowhere to go
I need somewhere to hide
Just to breathe and let go
Spinning left and right
There’s really nowhere to go

Breakdown
There’s nowhere to go.

Sophie

Sophie,
I wonder what this world looks like to you
Sophie,
Is it really all pink and shiny and new
Sophie,
It’s spinning round and round on a little girls’ wish
Sophie,
Is it really as cool as we promised you?

Baby…

Sophie,
I wonder how that light shines off your eyes
Sophie,
Disguised by shades of pale moonlight
Sophie,
I wonder how this world spins right through you
Sophie,
Don’t let their blinding love fool you

Catch her a wave, she’ll find you a unicorn
With a smile, he’ll fall to her grace
Make a wish, she’ll find you the light of dawn
Tempt you with that imaginary space

Sophie…

Name

What’s in a name?
Arbitrary lines…
They’re making a claim
To the meaning of a soul
Proprietary shapes…
They press, restrain
They try to embrace
They swallow me whole

I close my eyes
And give in to the quiet, the sublime
I close my eyes
Surrender to the sea, the quiet

I hear a name
Whispered through the walls
The lines of this frame
Resounding deep with control
Solitary game
I move my lips
Time no longer waits
I see the light
The light leads me home

I close my eyes
I give in to the quiet and sublime
I close my eyes
Surrender to the sea, the quiet
I close my eyes
I give in to the quiet and the sublime
I close my eyes
Surrender to the sea, my quiet.

The Right Note

A sliver of thought
It falls in streaks of black on sheets of white.
The sun’s long gone
To grace and light up some one else’s sky.
Surrounded by
The glow of solitary candlelight
She stayed up, she wrote
Of bygones right and wrong in sung disguise.

In search of the right note
In search of a love song
In search of the words that flow
In search of the truth, a form

Shadows peep out
Of secret hiding places in the night
Memories, fragments strung and framed on walls
Step into their place of pride
Flows and rows of no’s and lows
Pour out eloquently
The Muses laugh, skip and play along
Breathing harmonically

In search of the right note
In search of a love song
In search of the right hope
In search of a love song
In search of the rhyme for her reason
In search of the right note

Birth

And so…
Here we are
Circling round and round
The abyss

Residue it falls away
Slides down to the edge of the sky
Stardust runs down my veins
In a head rush, leaves me blind
I become the consequence
Of gravitational searching eyes
I sway as you find my name
I release the thread that holds my mind

And here we are
Circling round and round
The abyss
Lost for hours
Entwined in space, in sound
We exist

You are the source of stirring deep
Within this cavernous incline
You are the source of heaving beat
The strain of song that swells inside.
We are unspoken, unheard, unseen
Forsaken for the color of the night
We are inexplicably fused
Flesh, blood and bone explode in swell, in tide

Here we are
Circling round and round
The abyss
Lost for hours
Entwined in space, in sound
We exist

I’m sleeping on the stars tonight
I’m falling, I’m sinking through
I’m floating in your arms
I’m sleeping with the stars tonight
I’m falling, I’m sinking into
Your intricate design
I’m sleeping on the fire of
Burning stars
A higher birth

And so…
